EMERGENCY NOTICES

All's well in TAI Learning Land!

GENERAL NOTICES

Paid Union Meeting (PUM) now on Thursday 9 May

NZEI members teaching at TAI will be attending the meeting on Thursday 9th May. In order to facilitate this, school will close at 12:30. Any students unable to be supervised at home may stay at school as we will have a skeleton staff available to supervise them.

TAI Website News

Next week, we will have a brand new, much-improved website. The school has teamed up with Forge, a professional website company, to redesign the website, providing easier navigation and greater functionality. From the 17th March, our contract with Wix, our present website host, will end. This will result in some advertising appearing and some other minor changes. This is only temporary, until the new website is up and running.

Emergency Procedures at TAI

Dear Parents,

Over previous years, Te Atatu Intermediate has been working with an independent company, Harrison Tew, who specialises in emergency management planning for schools.  The procedures developed by Harrison Tew allow us to respond safely and quickly to a range of emergencies, whether it is a lockdown or an evacuation.

As a component of the implementation of the emergency procedures into our school, training is conducted with senior leadership and our staff. The students will also receive training from Harrison Tew which is directed at their respective age groups.

The training consists of a low key, but detailed, approach to potential threats and has been successfully implemented in hundreds of schools throughout New Zealand. After the training, we will be conducting a lockdown exercise under the guidance
and support of Harrison Tew. The exercise will be as real-life as possible, which will mean that parents/families will
receive notification by way of text and/or email. The information passed will emphasise that this is an exercise/practice and will explain that all updated information will then be posted on the school website. Prior to this occurring, can I please remind all parents and caregivers to ensure your contact details (mobile phone numbers and email addresses) are current, as this will be our communication with you, should an emergency occur at the school.

In a genuine incident, should you hear of a lockdown or evacuation at the school, can I please ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond.  Your presence at, or contact with, the school may make it more difficult for
us to manage the situation and could potentially place your children and yourselves at risk.

We thank you for your continued support.

Message from the Principal

Kia-ora. Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to Te Atatu Intermediate School.

Our School Motto:

‘Tu Tangata - Stand Tall’

Our Mission Statement:

Equipping students to stand tall: To be the best they can be, reaching the highest level of excellence possible through the development of character, skills and knowledge.

These two areas are the foundations underlying everything we believe and do in our school on a daily basis!

Our commitment to our students and their families extends to more than an academic promise or programme, although we firmly believe that these are vital. The staff at Te Atatu Intermediate School believe that the development of positive character values and attributes, along with resilience and perseverance in their everyday life are vitally important.

As you read through this website you will see that the school’s philosophy and drive are founded on three key phrases;

“Becoming the best people we can be”,

“Achieving at the highest level possible” and

“Acquiring the skills to become lifelong learners”.

As a school, we strive to support the home and family in all of the aspirations, hopes and dreams parents hold for their children. Alongside our strong commitment to a full academic programme, runs a commitment to a developing the all-round hauora and character of each student, whilst providing a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment that is conducive to learning. As a staff we also strive to model these values as positive role models.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about any of our programmes, myself, our staff and Board of Trustees are readily available to you.

So once again, welcome to our school!

Nga mihi nui.
